A mouse in the house

Since we’ve been gone we have received many e-mails and calls from family and friends which have been greatly appreciated. It’s important for us to keep posted on news from the home front (and we like to hear the latest gossip!) One such message recently arrived to us from our son Trevor who is acting as custodian of Weekswood in our absence. He reports on the discovery of mice in the house.

Eschewing the advice of his Machiavellian parents to cruelly and callously trap, poison and slay! Trevor has initiated a “catch and release” program. Once a mouse has been confined to the expensive live trap, it is transferred—without trauma—to a hamster cage where it is tenderly fed and watered while awaiting family unification. When his cage is full Trevor plans to transport this little group of émigrés across the stream and release them onto our neighbours property. The flaw in his benevolent plan however has been one devious creature that eludes capture. Each night it matches wits with our son and each morning, despite his most cunning efforts, he discovers that it has somehow managed to “take the money and run!”

It may be time to suggest that he rouse his stalwart allies “the cats,” Missy and Pekoe, from their lazy slumber, and position them strategically along with the trap. We shall see… In the meantime, keep us posted on the interesting things happening in your lives.
